    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

League Two Fleetwood (0) v Rovers (0)

Carlisle play their game in hand on Tuesday at home to MK Dons, we really could do with Mk getting some from that game
MK Dons won at Cheltenham yesterday, so it is far from a gimme for Carlisle.

It may be famous last words, but I don't think they can stay up from the position they are in. They would need promotion form from now until the end of the season, and we would have to collapse back to Adkins type form. I don't think either will happen.

Hopefully you are right.

As most prexicted, it was a stone wall 0-0.
If you ignore the penalty claims, both sides couldn't create anything that resembled a good chance.
It was clear as day, both teams did not have a goalscorer between them.
And, that was a poor game.
Admittedly, a clean sheet and a draw was a welcome point.
but it was still poor fsre.
I must admit our weaknesses have turned to strengths and positives at the back.
midfield still missing a decent quality creator, however Hendry is the best link player we have.
but as always the big absence is a quality striker.
big shout out to the SWA. Do some of our players deserve that level of support?
onwards to Friday night at PP, always something special.

Alas as we all know players like George Yardley do not get signed often. If my memory serves me right Yardley was signed after being released after a trial at Luton who where in the fourth division like Rovers at the time, I also think Yardley scored in his first game for Rovers against Luton of all teams. Oh for another Yardley at the moment.
Agree. I think he was clogged by Alf Wood at Shrewsbury in 1970? Was badly injured and was never the same again. He died in Scotland in 2018. RIP.

I was at the game away at Shrewsbury when Alf Wood launched his attack on Yardley, it was a midweek game, a couple of days before Rovers played Everton in the FA Cup. Woods was not even booked for his tackle, in those days you could commit GBH on an opposing player and not get even get a talking to from the ref, the tackle on Yardley was one of the worst tackles I think I ever seen, Woods ran into Yardley with his studs up, catching him in his kidneys. In those days it was wooden studs with long nails keeping them in place, after the injury George went back to Australia and returned a few years later but was never the same. One of the best finishers I have seen at Rovers, he will always be remembered by those that watched him.

Was at that game, Woods should have been done for assault, the most horrific foul I've ever seen. George was one of the best finishers we have ever had. RIP George
I could not agree with you more Frenchrover, everything you said was spot on.

I agree. Still nature seemingly exacted punishment. Wood died in2020 at the age of 74 after suffering from dementia for 12 years. Those of us old enough to recall will remember that the leather balls back then were rocks when wet. As was the case with the likes of Jeff Astle it may be that this contributed to Wood’s condition. Modern football can sometimes be criticised but it is a safer game. The Wood tackle is unlikely to have happened, given the modern discipline regime, and he might not have suffered dementia at the age of only 62.

I saw George Yardley a few times in my early days, quality player before the serious injury mentioned. Could do with a reliable scorer of his ilk now.

I remember George Yardley very well. He filled the gap when Dyson and Manning left, securing us promotion to what is now League One in his first season. I remember one Friday evening against Shrewsbury Town when we won 4-1 and George scored all four. He could have had five but he arrogantly took a penalty with his "wrong" foot and missed!

Earlier in his career he played in goal and was capped for Scotland as an amateur. Only after injuring his hand did he seriously start playing as a striker.

Thanks Drwhoman, I never knew what happened to Alf Woods, at the time every team had an Alf Woods playing for them, as you said good or bad football has changed, what was acceptable then would be a straight red now.

Carlisle were the joint lowest scorers with us before kick off….

Despite our decent upturn in form we could do with scoring a few more goals

It finishes 2-2.

We in on Friday and we are nine points clear of relegation.

Finished 2 2 second half bit of an anti climax, big game now Friday for us, win and the pressure on the bottom 2 is huge

Caught the tail end of the game. Certainly no lack of effort from Carlisle but very poor in attack. They even had a free header in the box very late on which was completely missed. I would be amazed if they caught us really. 8 games to go..

There is still a long way to go, but every obstacle in Carlisle’s path improves our chances of surviving. Just about the first time I’ve been wanting the Franchise to get a result
