First name to be linked is right back James Gibbons. Turned down a new deal at Cambridge to move closer to his northern roots. Played under DC at Vale and were short in that area of the pitch.

Hes from Stoke-on-Trent so I can see him going to Port Vale

A reminder of what DC has to start with:

Luke McGee
Lee O'Connor
Jordan Turnbull
Nathan Smith
Patrick Brough
James Plant
Nohan Kenneh
Sam Finley
Lewis Warrington
Josh Williams
Charlie Whitaker
Connor Jennings
Joe Ironside

Mcgee and Jennings won't be available for several months, O'Connor could be touch and go to start the season

X marks the ones I see little or no input from.

Well it’s a start at least. Although dissecting that list, there isn’t a great deal to work with.

McGee- not convinced he'll be ready for 26/27
O'Connor - pray he stays fit
Turnbull - take it or leave it
Smith - Can work with better players
Brough - Average at best
Plant - Average at best
Kenneh - Pray I never see him in a white shirt again
Finley - Generally good but slowing down
Warrington - Could work out
Williams - Probably wont see him in a white shirt
Whitaker - Can work with better players
Jennings - In reality, getting on now
Ironside - Tough one, he has ability, need to get the best out of him

So 13 players. I thought it was 12?
Anyhow realistically McGee and CJ we can count out. Williams we have no idea but suggest unlikely so that takes us down to 10.
Kenneth if we have to play we have no hope so realistically we have at best 9 and I personally think Warrington is also not a starter so look on the bright side he has a completely blank canvas to work from.,.

Williams and Plant are hard to gauge. Josh made a few appearances in the early part of the previous season, showed some signs of promise, then disappeared from view only to be recalled for one game, think Notts County away, where he looked out of his depth. Plant played in at least 3 positions after joining and didn’t look confident in any. I’m hoping that Warrington’s hernia issue may have been a factor in his poor form and there might be some hope for him if we ditch using in a defensive role and deploy as a midfield pivot instead

so if we start with keepers as it looks like McGee won't start i think realistic shouts could be Ben Amos (released from port vale and worked with DC before) Luke Southwood (again worked with DC before)

Wonder now that we have a manager whether he/ we may revisit the released list which of course was everyone not in contract and as it explicitly stated "for now" which made sense so as not to tie the new manager's hands.

Absolutely. We won’t improve with players of that calibre at the club, although I suspect we won’t learn as has been the case in the past.

Apparently DC is a fan of 3-5-2 so wonder if he’d look at offering Bristow the chance to train with us in pre season.

Yeah, he has pace but is fairly lightweight in most areas. Wasn't too impressed second time round but then that applied to most players!

It's always possible that DC may be able to get more out of the remaining players than previous management. Brough for example was well thought of at previous clubs.

My assessment of Bristow is on a par with Sparky's.
