Up next for Rovers after their excellent 2-0 win against Crawley is a home game against The Magpies. County have had an indifferent start to the season winning one, with two draws and two defeats so far. Their last game ended in a 2-2 draw against Bromley with Matthew Dennis grabbing a brace.

Ex Rover Ollie Norburn will most probably feature in midfield as well as Matthew Dennis after his goalscoring exploits on Saturday.

The last encounter between the two sides was on 22nd Feb ending in a 2-1 defeat with Dennis grabbing Rovers' consilation goal.

Rovers will be without Dennis this time who is struggling with a calf problem as well as other absentees Finley and Williams.

This is another winnable game for Rovers and one I think we will win.

I wonder if we will have any new recruits for this game or will it be the usual last minute signings, be a tough game but think we will shade it 2 1.

Be very surprised if anyone new featured in this. Bristow needs to show his offensive side in this match as frankly his defensive work was worse than ever Saturday.

Their top scorer from last season Jatta who was bizarrely linked with us is close to a return so may feature although Dennis is the leagues top scorer with 4 in 4. Jodi Jones is always a danger man for the magpies.

Unless enforced or a new number nine and although the game is nearly a week away, I suspect we’ll be unchanged from yesterday

The Magpies made a strange managerial appointment and so for it doesn’t seem to be working out. They also lost the veteran David McGoldrick in the summer who was an influential player for them. As Sparky mentions their awkward striker Jatta has been out injured and I hope not ready for a comeback against us.

Charlie Whitaker up against his old club and maybe with a point to prove. There seemed to be mixed feelings from Notts fans on his release after that short term
deal. It would be nice if he could score against his old club!

Unsure we’ll see any new arrivals by the weekend and probably as important that Patrick still a Rovers player then.

Going to this game but then, for a variety of reasons unless I make Walsall away will not see Rovers live and won’t be back at PP until October.

Big worry that anything close to £100k maybe tempting?

This Saturday sees the visit of Notts County. Last season the magpies scored a lot but also conceded plenty. Attacking wise they had mcgoldrick, Jatta and the creative Jodi Jones. The latter is still there but Jatta has been injured and mcgoldrick went to Barnsley. Martin Paterson took over the managers job in June and despite finishing 6th last season, Notts haven’t started this season too well with a single win against Shrewsbury in their 5 games. Last weekend they drew 2-2 at home to Bromley and Matt Dennis scored his 3rd and 4th goals of the season and leads the divisions top scorer charts.

As for rovers we were unbeaten in our four league games at the start of last season so it would be good to improve in that this time round. The Notts fans aren’t too happy at present so if we can score first it would put pressure on the visitors. I suspect we’ll be unchanged from last week unless there are any injuries. Teams will start to double up on Patrick and he’ll have the odd off day so hopefully others can step up including Whitaker who may want to prove something against his old club.

Prediction: a narrow rovers win.

Given Rovers' current form, you have to be confident for Saturday. I too can see a narrow win. I can see us scoring, but if we don't add a second, an equaliser will always be possible.

I am going for a hard fought 2-1 home win
I would not be surprised whoever scored except for McGee, I keep looking and looking for a sign of a forward signing and get excited every time I see someone has posted on the squad page, only to have my hopes dashed once again. With a half decent no 9, I think the team Crosby has built would at least make the play offs, without it mid table at best.

Jatta likely to be available for the visitors this weekend, he got their second goal in last season's fixture. Haven't seen anything pre-match from Crosby and player yet.
I guess as not seen any mention, that the Trust aren't doing another pop-up venue for this game?

It doesn't sound like we'll be seeing Dennis for a while.

Still no striker.,...... !
Window is closing........
Last minute will only be kids again!

One decent signing from a successful team and we can't seem to get it, frustrating
I would say we probably need a bit more depth to the squad too. It will be interesting to see who partners Smallwood in midfield next weekend, when Kenneh on international duty.

We are almost at the stage where the whole squad will either be playing or on the bench. I e never seen this forum so united on what is needed. Andy must now have a bit more budget to play with but only three days left in the window. Has he left it too late? I suspect all the good, experienced strikers have gone, so it probably means buying a player (unlikely) or bringing in a couple of promising but untried players on loan. Either way, I can’t see us getting an influential player. But it will provide cover and competition.

Budgets come from money available, if we don't get a new loan then it will be clear Palios is going to burn through the advance income aka ST's and around Xmas will be broke. As I suggested elsewhere any windfall is almost impossible now before then, whilst a successful side may see a modest upturn in matchday cash flow. By Xmas we either get a loan, sell a player if that is even feasible or maybe await a round 3 bonanza- the former is the only likely one
We may need a no 9 but I feel confident we will only get kids in and maybe not even a 9.

We get around a million from the league just before the start of the season and get the same amount later on in the season
