    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

One of the quietest and frustrating pre seasons

This has got to be the quietest summers ever. Most clubs have games lined up already we haven't yet,

Loads of clubs are bringing players in we are not

The communication from the club is sh**t
We dont even know how many seasons tickets have been sold although we all can imagine it's way down from last season and you can't blame the supporters if it is

And so much for the takeover a slug can moce faster than Palios

Even last pre season we had announced the friendlies
I would imagine the majority if not all matches will be behind closed doors again. I think the inadequate pre-season last year was a major contributor to the poor fitness levels in the squad, and the sudden drop off in form after the opening weeks of the season.

At least the Rochdale game effectively gives us another proper pre-season fixture.

Wonder when Clarke returns from his honeymoon? It may be things will start to move a bit when that happens.

How strong the correlation is between the minimal pre-season fixtures nearly all behind closed doors and the fitness issue, I’m unsure but there certainly is a link, even if you train intensively that doesn’t guarantee match fitness, which can only be attained by actually playing. Pre-season games the SWA can attend also can fire things up. However closed door games are cheaper.

Last year the club’s announcement about friendlies was on June 4. This year’s bound to be a bit later, simply because of the timing of the seasons. but presumably some time within the next week(?)

[The next league season starts 2 weeks later than last season, although the League Cup 1st round is now the week before. Of course we also have to play a preliminary round, probably the week before that, but that only affects 4 clubs, so many clubs who we might be looking to play probably won’t need to finalise their PSFs as early as they did last year]

It would be nice to make a signing even one of the loan players last year Negru or/and the keeper
To be fair, by this time last season we had only signed Smith, Brough and Bristow, although a few players had renewed their contracts.

This summer, I suppose putting together his coaching team is as much a priority for DC. I also heard he's been on his honeymoon! I don't think there is cause for panic, but I do hope we get most of the squad together well before the season starts. Is it too much to ask to give the fans a few pre-season games again to watch? Last season, most were behind closed doors and all the evidence points to the players being below par for fitness.

Darren will not have come in completely cold. Surely he will have touched base with Nathan Smith and James Plant - and maybe even Andy Crosby and Jason Lowe.

O4APO makes a fair point about the players market being generally quiet in L2 at this point. Darrell Clarke’s honeymoon a factor too, but his joining remarks did not suggest backroom staff recruitment was an immediate priority.

There is a legitimate concern, because of the relatively small number of players under contract (13) and that of those McGee and Jennings are highly unlikely to be available by August and there are significant doubts about Turnbull and O’Connor. Such concern will evolve into something stronger, if there are not significant incomings by the end of the month, given the depleted squad we start off with.

A lot better than when Ronnie took over 1 starter and three kids, day one of training.
Lots of hysteria locally, longest off season in years and everywhere is dead all in the med!
Season wise whether Palios sells it or not we are going to use the max cap we can and any buyout cannot raise that, I understand. Or won't as no new equity is due? Might be possible at Xmas.
Much will rely on what other clubs are up to.
Re takeover I gave them till June for imminent, now back onto back burner

Gosh what are the club doing bet the rochdale game is the only one we get lol thats if we have a team to put out, have any of you got some boots at this rate you will get a 4 year contract

The delay in the takeover is nothing to do with either Palios or the Club. Ascent Failed to gather the funds in time to complete the sale before the new Regulator took responsibility for the approval process. They have form for this, with the purchase of a German TV station falling through last year because they didn't transfer the funds. Delays now are solely due to the Regulator deciding what they need to do or not. I would imagine they would want this sorted before the end of the month because they will become very busy from July as they start processing the new licence applications (which every club will need) and checks on existing owners, especially with the media and Government 'angst' over Sullivan. As such there is nothing new for the Club to say. They have said they will announce any news as soon as there is any.
