    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

League Two Gillingham (2) v Rovers (1)

Murphy is injured apparently, so we may have to bring an emergence loan in.

It always was stupid to rely on a 44 year old for the entire season.
Because are younger players are proving so much more robust? JJ kicked a ball and crumpled, Jones tried running and Tamen gained a long term issue none of us even noticed.

As Lee O’Connor and Connor Jennings illustrate, bad injuries happen to older players too!

Specifically re Joe Murphy, he’s had ongoing back problems. At the start of the season, he was probably expecting to play a handful of games; not twenty or so. He’s still a decent keeper but reaction times understandably have slowed. Once it became clear McGee was unlikely to play again, a keeper with some experience ought to have been targeted for January. Even before the personal issues that required Joe to be in Ireland early January.

The current weather forecast is for rain all day at Gillingham tomorrow. Does anyone know if football boots nowadays have interchangeable studs to adapt to whatever state the pitch is in?

I never claimed older players didn't get injured, I merely challenged the idea they get injured because they are old. The three named players have probably got less injuries behind them than some of the younger ones have already.

They have different boots although I think the blade ones are banned now.
Shankly had one pair for his entire career, slept with them but not on!

It was always going to come back and haunt the team not bringing in a goalkeeper during the transfer window. A goalkeeper should have been a no1 priority, its alright saying we can bring in an emergency loan, but with an emergency loan you have to take who you can get, while with a permanent signing you can get who you want.

Nobody in EFL is going to let you sign their second string, so you would be punting a contract on someone in the background of a considerably higher club. My only worry about keeping is that I suspect Luke is finished and the kid is a 'polo'

….with a permanent signing you can get who you want.
There are lots of possible reasons why you can’t, especially in the January window. Once we decided Barrett was worth an extension, and as our ridiculous list of injuries kept mounting, our transfer focus was always unlikely to be on bringing in another keeper full time. Especially with the emergency loan option still available. And the option of a free agent if an emergency becomes a bigger emergency!

I'll watch more out of interest as to who will be selected and after that in hope that there are no further injuries...

I'm not confident of a win but not conceding will be a positive.

I can't envisage many of the teams below Tranmere doing well, so a point would be useful.

Interesting that BBTC references the defeat at Gillingham last autumn, which I agree was a turning point in the season.

I thought we were the better side for the first sixty minutes, but after the collapse that followed I don't think the players had faith in Adkins' system again.

That has been happening a lot in the last few seasons!
And it doesn't improve.

Warrington, Plant, Negru, Dickov, Obiero, the new keeper. We could have half of a new side starting today.

Unlikely and I expect a couple will start and others on the bench but after 5 defeats it’ll be interesting if Crosby makes significant changes to the starting eleven. Patrick back too.

Yes, whatever he does partnership's are going to develop on the job which has it's risks. I'm not sure I remember such potential changes apart from the first match of a new season and anomalies like Maidstone. Perhaps under Adams? Fingers crossed, but not overly hopeful!

Maybe a bit of....... Pick and Mix.

Just shows you the team that was assembled before the season started really wasn't up to the job.
Indeed and Crosby and whoever advises on recruitment should take the blame. Palios is far from perfect but he did back Crosby in the summer with a number of two year contracts given out

In fairness, we have had a massive injury problem. Any L2 side would have struggled to lose the likes of McGee, LOC, Turnbull, Joseph and Patrick. Andy has had to chop and change personnel almost every game.
