    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

Chairman Update

We can all whinge about Mark and Nicola. Where was the alternative other than some cowboy?
We will never know what other offers Peter Johnson received.

If he was still around I am sure he would be hugely disappointed with the performance of Mark Palios, having gifted £20million of his assets to him.

I don't see that at all. The business is in far better shape. The assets are useless they merely allow an annual deficit to be created. Anyone using the assets to leverage the finances would almost certainly hit a big bust down the road as happened at Bury et al.
Whilst Palios remains you will continue to hope for a miracle on the pitch from a shoe string budget, but off it you won't see any kamikaze finances.

For what it is worth and all I can add is that as long as I have been a supporter of Tranmere, there has always been a lack of finances, except for the Peter Johnson years before he jumped ship and left for Everton. To be honest we do not get the gates to sustain a team in a league higher than the bottom two leagues, that is why Tranmere have mostly been a yoyo team between the bottom two divisions. With the implementation of the Premier league and the money mostly staying at the top of the pyramid that has made it even harder for teams lower down the pyramid. The important question is where does that leave Tranmere and going forward, unless we get more investment in the club then hopefully we will continue to yoyo between the bottom two divisions otherwise it will mean another stint in the national league or lower, if we could get the investment then the championship is not out of reach. My own preferred investors would be a consortium of very rich Tranmere supporters if they exist who could afford to lose the sort of money it takes to sustain the loses the club makes. A local company that could pump finances into the team through sponsorship or a very wealthy individual who would be prepared to bank roll the club. To me the days of a local business man taking over a club, building it up and taking through the divisions is over because of the cost of transfers and players wages.

Just to go back to the FanZone fiasco, perhaps it's too simplistic but what sort of property owner, nevermind one who is an accountant, allows a third party to construct a building on their property without knowing precisely, in the finest detail from day one, what, why and how that third party intends to construct such building.

One who trusted the trust! Mark seems to get it if he interferes and when he doesn't

Simply not good enough. mate. You're trying, not very successfully, to defend the indefensible!
The Trust run lots of schemes and mainly well. You'd be the first to attack Mark if he interfered with them. It seems the loss of Ben may well have caused this project to go completely out of control.
Mark called the project in and has explained his findings, which are extremely damning and to date have not been challenged by the trust. It is clear from resignations and stories of infighting, that all is not well.
But you'll blame Mark anyway, regardless

I agree entirely with this Alun. Investment plus good management is needed. As a Rovers fan we have always struggled with the geographic proximity of two big clubs. I still remember the looks of incredulity from some boys at school in having my first allegiance to Rovers! The gap is far wider now of course not just due to money but social media. Ironically this has helped to fuel Wrexham’s success but that is very much an outlier. How many global fans do Liverpool now have? Over a million I think. See what happens!

United had 80 million a while back. On the upside LFC price themselves out of a huge chunk of our population.
On the downside the PJ/King years were also the Warwick years, we should never forget our incredible youth tree (as Kingy called it). It would be incredibly difficult to start again and I don't think would be even viable outside the Championship.

I could not agree with you more dollar's bloke.

I agree re the youth scheme. The scouting networks of the major clubs are far more sophisticated these days. You only have to look around the PL and you struggle to see many of the better teams having players acquired from further down the pyramid other than that at age 16 or thereabouts. Indeed, they try to raid each other for players at this age - look at Liverpool - Nyoni - Leicester, Nallo West Ham, Nghuma (?) Chelsea. Even someone like Vardy was once on Man City's books.

You seem to have a very unsophisticated view on all this, probably just to fit your personal agenda. If Mark had not agreed to allow use of the unused land to advance on the tent success, you would have supported that?
The Trust seem to be now in complete denial. The fact is the whole scheme needs about 20k a week income and a full time staff of at least 20. That was a lot of ambition for an event centre in a sleepy area notable for just one thing, us.
I never realised the scale of the project and the numbers agreed with the brewery. Maybe Ben could have pulled it off but I am certain he wouldn't be currently in such denial about safety issues. We will never know.

But they can lay out the facts as to why it’s cocked up. Especially when the party primarily responsible for the cock ups continues to hide behind silence.

The trust has emailed out again following Mark's comments, but makes no effort to correct the record. The idea that professional advice that it would get shut down by H&S was just ignored, is very disturbing. The email refers to six vacancies on the trust board of which only two are seeking re-election, which again is a bit concerning.

I think Ben was the main trust man. I think others are just numbers so it’s getting out of hand quickly. If MP would had seen the proposal from the start he might have vetoed it or challenged it (most probably with objections) but it would have been beneficial for both parties instead of building something that was never going to be finished due to lack of money, safety concerns etc.. it was just a bad plan to begin with.

I’m surprised that you think Peel Holdings will give us carte blanche to build as we want on their site. Unlike the situation with the club and the fan park, there are going to be other businesses also on their site, which will be affected dependent on how any new ground is planned.

I have no inside knowledge on what is going wrong with the Trust at present and the situation is troubling if we are left with only the puppet-regime of TROSC as a voice to represent fan interests. There is a need for an independent voice to do that. I would react far more favourably to a Mark Palios who accepted some responsibility for failing to scrutinise the initial plans at a point where they could have been adjusted or some alternative, even if just a new tent proposed. However like the Elton John song goes, sorry seems to be the hardest word.

That's it boz, he rarely admits to mistakes, keeping Adkins way longer than he should have done, it's always someone else's fault
