After the disappointing 2-0 defeat against Barnet last Saturday, Rovers will be hoping to come away from the Memorial Stadium with at least a point. Rovers find themselves in 19th place, only three points off the bottom. Recent league form has been awful quite frankly with Rovers' last win coming against Bromley in August. Since then we have been progressively worse by the week.

Bristol Rovers, recently relegated after a few seasons in league one are a bit of a mixed bag. Five wins, five losses and two draws sees them placed 14th in the league, six points ahead of Rovers. The Pirates recent form has been inconsistent. They beat Salford 2-1 a few weeks ago but then lost to 2-1 to Walsall and got a beating against MK Dons going down 4-0 so it is difficult to know what to expect from them come Saturday.

Our last game against The Gas was a few seasons ago on 9th April 2022 in a 1-1 draw. Highlights below:

Rovers really need to stop the slide and realistically, a point would be a good start. Crosby is struggling with player form, tactics and the usual glut of injuries and I would really like him to try something different on Saturday as I don't think his tactics are working with the players. We need Ironside in the game and well in the mix, something he has not been since joining.

Verdict: 3-1 loss.

Suspect a defeat is on the cards, hope Crosby shakes things up tactically but we shall see. I’d go

Murphy

Norman McGowan Smith Brough

Joseph Kenneh Smallwood Patrick

Ironside Solomon

Could easily bring in Finley for Smallwood and Jennings for Solomon. Sure it will be 5-2-2-1 however!

Disappointing doesn't cover it, we weren't involved last week. The upsides maybe a new centre half allowing our second best offender in Norman into wing back. Patrick will be LWB however we muse about it. But Finley is the only centre mid with vague offensive potential, so maybe a plus? Ironside at least means if we get the ball in we might score.
Thin hopes not hopeful, a better display in defeat might not be bad?

I like Andy, speaks the truth and doesn't butter you up.

Feel you can see the defensive tactics he prefers given his long career as one. Being set up to nullify isn't attractive at our level and it very rarely offers points unless your top line is very patient and quick too. We don't seem to have either at the moment which is my biggest worry.

A draw isn't impossible but feel BR are too good a side for us to set up like that against so a loss unfortunately.

I'm such a glass half full guy usually too

Afraid that you’re right about likely formations. I’m a little puzzled that you would persist with 3 of our poorest players from the Barnet game in Smallwood, Kenneh and Ironside, with Solomon not much better. While Ironside is more likely to thrive with better service, I’m still unsure. Think I would start McGowan in a back three, Norman and Joseph as wing-backs pushing Patrick further forward, Finley ahead of Smallwood and Whitaker rather than Solomon.

I was at the last away at Bristol when we came from 2 down to grab a draw and Glatzel played very well. Can’t see such a positive outcome this time around.

I met a fellow supporter, whilst going to the shops on Borough Road.
He described Saturday's performance as a bunch of Sunday league players, after a night out at the local pub.
So as yazz said, the only way is down! (Is it?)
Just hope we don't get smashed.
Or the good ship Tranmere could get sunk by the pirates.

Yeah, I think I'd rather have a half-fit Finley than Smallwood. Those players really don't deserve to play on Saturday but sadly our options are limited. Ironside does not have any pace so we need to play to his strengths otherwise there really is no point him being out there. Can we also not have a full squad defending a corner, it really does not help having no outlet and 10 men getting in each other's way. I'd like to see more of McGowan too.

At the beginning of the season, Bristol Rovers and Swindon away were the two games I was most looking forward too, I only live about thirty miles from both grounds so look on them as my home matches. My daughters and granddaughters husbands both come from Bristol and we had made plans to watch the game and then spend the night in Bristol having a pub crawl around all their old pubs. Alas at the time I am on strong medication and suffering with glaucoma and can't even go to the game, to make matters worse I have an appointment in Bristol for laser treatment on my eyes two weeks today. With or without my attendance and with our record of Rovers playing Bristol at home, I can not see us getting anything at all from this game so going for an easy home win, 3-0.

Good luck mate

I can't see us getting anything out of this game. As long as the score is respectable, I won't be too disappointed.
