Early intervention by big clubs is happening in many sports. Here in New South Wales Rugby and Rugby League are the historic games although football is becoming more popular. In both cases any decent player is taken off to Sydney or wherever at a very early age, given the increased professionalism of the sports, which does nothing for the health of the games in the regions of the state. We are 250 miles from Sydney and our local Rugby League team is ninety five years old.Yet it will not be fielding a first grade team this year. Such is change and the passing of time!Sadly true BBTC, gone are the days when Rovers would find and nurture local talent. Whether it was the big clubs vacuuming all the young local talent or economic reasons that forced the closure of the academy, very sad it had to happen.
